LUCY IN THE SKY

Artistic Direction ✧ Photography ✧ Typography ✧ Editorial Design

Produced in collaboration with Clémence Charmoille and Aglaé Dru, ❝ Lucy In The Sky ❞ is a fusion of art direction, photography, editorial design, and typography.

The project is a contemporary reinterpretation of the character from The Beatles widely-known song ❝ Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds❞.

Lucy evolves in a surreal narrative universe, navigating between dreams and nightmares, inspired by the hallucinogenic effects of LSD.

The ambition of this project was to create psychedelic visuals, avoiding any post-production, to capture the raw essence of these altered perceptions.

Elizaveta Porodina, Paul Rousteau, Daryna Barykina, Nick Knight, Fernand Léger’s ❝ Ballet Mécanique❞ and George Dunning’s animated clip ❝ Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds❞ have been our greatest inspirations, in the way they combine the vibrancy of colour and the visual effects of movement to create a dreamlike world.

We started testing different images and patterns projected onto the mannequin, at the same time as playing with the camera, such as using long exposure settings, in order to create the desired effects.

I was responsible for creating an illustration to complement Lucie's story. My teammates designed the tie-dye textures and pattern, such as the on the right, to decorate our character's dreamlike journey.

My edition retraces Lucy's dreamlike journey. With a title printed on holographic sticker paper to capture the surreal essence of the project, I play with the codes of page layout to create an immersive experience. Enriched with a variety of illustrations, this edition adds to the visual dimension and reflects the complexity and depth of Lucy's psychedelic journey.

By placing semi-transparent objects such as coloured scarves over the camera lens, we were able to create the visual effects we wanted.

Typography Design of the title (Photoshop - Textures)

In order to complete Lucy's oneiric universe, I designed the title in pencil, tested different textures created in felt-tip pen, and tried out a number of different layouts for the title. I then created a prototype of the lettering printed as a holographic sticker, and later printed all these different versions for the design brief.

After testing several cover options, mixing cyan, magenta and black&white, I decided to follow a less figurative and more abstract aesthetic line, in a play of texture and monochrome.
